Restoration of damp walls

What is damp in a house?

Damp is a common problem in all types of homes, whether you are a homeowner, landlord or tenant. Dampness can make your home feel cold, unwelcoming and unhealthy. It is also a breeding ground for mould, which can be hazardous to your health.

Damp is essentially unwanted moisture that makes its way into structures over time. There are three main types of damp, which we’ll look at, plus how to spot each and the best ways to deal with it.

Is damp dangerous?
In short, yes. Damp, if left unchecked, can be disastrous for your property (and your finances) if you are a homeowner or landlord, and it can also be hazardous to your health if you are a landlord or tenant.

Water slowly erodes the structure of a building, rots wood and creates the perfect environment for potentially harmful mould to grow. If your property has any kind of mould problem caused by moisture, follow our detailed guide for a number of different solutions on how to get rid of mould.

These are just some of the reasons why we strongly recommend that you don’t simply paint over damp walls without fixing the problem first.
